Educational and religious guidance notice

This guide summarises material from the Hajj resources supplied for the website. It is not a substitute for qualified scholarly instruction, the company’s pre-departure orientation or the final operational directions issued during Hajj. Where scholars differ or a pilgrim has a special circumstance, seek direct advice.

The journey at a glance

Four ideas to understand before studying the details.

Hajj combines acts of worship, movement between sacred locations, specific timing and disciplined conduct.

01

Correct intention

Hajj is undertaken sincerely for Allah, with repentance and a desire to obey Him.

02

Knowledge before action

Study the rites beforehand and ask knowledgeable people when you are uncertain.

03

Specific times and places

The major rites are connected to locations such as Minā, ‘Arafah and Muzdalifah.

04

Patience and good conduct

Avoid quarrels, harm and unnecessary crowding while helping fellow pilgrims.

Part 1

The three recognised forms of Hajj.

The supplied guides identify three forms of Hajj. A pilgrim should understand which form applies to the journey because this affects Ihrām, ‘Umrah and sacrifice.

Tamattu‘

‘Umrah followed by Hajj

The pilgrim performs ‘Umrah during the Hajj months, leaves Ihrām, and later enters Ihrām again for Hajj. A sacrifice is required.

Qirān

‘Umrah and Hajj together

The pilgrim enters Ihrām for ‘Umrah and Hajj together and remains in Ihrām until the applicable rites are completed. A sacrifice is required.

Ifrād

Hajj alone

The pilgrim enters Ihrām for Hajj without combining it with ‘Umrah. The obligations differ from Tamattu‘ and Qirān.

Your travel group should tell you which form of Hajj applies to the programme. Do not rely on assumptions when making your intention.
Part 2

Prepare spiritually, practically and financially.

The source guides emphasise that Hajj preparation begins before the journey. A pilgrim should correct personal matters and learn the rites before departure.

  • Repent sincerely and renew the intention to perform Hajj for Allah.
  • Settle debts or make clear arrangements with those to whom money is owed.
  • Correct wrongs committed against other people and seek forgiveness where appropriate.
  • Prepare a will and give trusted family members essential information.
  • Study the sequence of the rites and attend the company’s orientation sessions.
  • Prepare travel documents, prescribed medication and practical clothing.
  • Learn the group’s meeting points, communication system and emergency procedure.
  • Build physical readiness for walking, heat, crowds and changes in schedule.
Part 3

Entering the state of Ihrām.

Ihrām is not merely the clothing worn by a pilgrim. It is a sacred state entered with intention at the appropriate point, followed by rules that remain applicable until the pilgrim leaves that state.

  • Complete personal grooming such as trimming nails before entering Ihrām.
  • Perform ghusl where possible and prepare in a clean state.
  • Men wear two plain, unstitched sheets; women wear normal modest clothing.
  • Make the intention for the applicable form of Hajj at the proper place and time.
  • Begin the Talbiyah and continue it as instructed for the journey.
  • Avoid the restrictions of Ihrām and ask a scholar about any accidental violation.
Labbayka Allāhumma labbayk, labbayka lā sharīka laka labbayk. Innal-hamda wan-ni‘mata laka wal-mulk, lā sharīka lak.
A declaration that the pilgrim has answered Allah’s call and that all praise, blessing and dominion belong to Him alone.
Ihrām restrictions and rulings can vary according to the pilgrim’s circumstances. Raise questions before departure rather than waiting until the rites have begun.
Part 4

The main days of Hajj.

The following sequence is a concise educational summary. Group movement and exact timings must follow the approved Hajj programme and instructions given on site.

Part 5

Understanding several key rites.

  • Standing at ‘Arafah: the pilgrim remains within ‘Arafah during the required time, engaged in worship and supplication.
  • Muzdalifah: the pilgrim follows the prescribed prayers, overnight stay and departure arrangements.
  • Stoning the Jamaraat: pebbles are thrown at the designated pillars according to the correct day, order and timing.
  • Sacrifice: required for Tamattu‘ and Qirān; it should be arranged through an authorised process.
  • Shaving or trimming: men shave or shorten the hair, while women trim a small amount.
  • Tawāf al-Ifādah: a central Tawāf of Hajj performed after the principal rites begin on the tenth day.
  • Sa‘y: walking seven circuits between as-Safā and al-Marwah where it applies to the pilgrim’s form of Hajj.
  • Tawāf al-Wadā‘: the Farewell Tawāf before leaving Makkah, subject to recognised exemptions.
The supplied guide notes that the rites of the tenth day have a preferred order, but a pilgrim who changes that order should seek guidance rather than panic.
Part 6

Conduct that supports an accepted journey.

The source materials repeatedly emphasise sincerity, obedience, patience and concern for other pilgrims.

  • Avoid quarrels, insulting language and conduct that harms other pilgrims.
  • Do not push through crowds merely to reach a preferred position.
  • Give obligatory acts priority over optional actions.
  • Follow group leaders in matters of movement, safety and operational timing.
  • Ask knowledgeable scholars when a religious question arises.
  • Help the elderly, first-time pilgrims and those who become separated or confused.
  • Protect personal documents, money, medication and emergency contact details.
  • Remain patient when transport, accommodation or crowd-control arrangements change.
Four guiding principles

Carry these attitudes throughout the journey.

A pilgrim needs more than a timetable. Hajj also demands spiritual discipline and respect for others.

01

Sincerity

Direct the worship to Allah and avoid turning the journey into a display.

02

Patience

Expect crowds, delays and fatigue, and respond without anger or harmful behaviour.

03

Knowledge

Learn before acting and ask qualified people when a ruling is unclear.

04

Cooperation

Help fellow pilgrims and follow group arrangements that protect everyone.

Hajj guide questions

Frequently asked questions.

Introductory answers to common questions from first-time pilgrims.

Your travel programme and religious orientation should state whether the group is performing Tamattu‘, Qirān or Ifrād. Confirm this before making the intention.

Yes. The standing at ‘Arafah during its recognised time is a central and indispensable part of Hajj. Pilgrims must remain within the recognised boundary and follow group instructions.

The supplied guide presents a preferred order—stoning, sacrifice, hair cutting, Tawāf and Sa‘y where applicable—but also notes that changing the order does not automatically invalidate the rites. Ask a scholar about the specific situation.

Do not guess at the remedy. Explain exactly what happened to a qualified scholar or the appointed religious guide because the ruling depends on the act and the circumstances.

This webpage is an introductory study guide. During the journey, follow qualified religious guidance and the confirmed operational instructions issued by the authorised Hajj team.
